He was born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe. At eighteen he entered the University of Cambridge to continue his studies. Newton never attended classes regularly, since their main interest was in the library. He graduated from Trinity College as a student, reading some of the most important books of mathematics and natural philosophy. In the Clavis Mathematicae 1663Newton read William Oughtred, Geometry of Descartes's Opera mathematica of Viète and Arithmetic of John Wallis. In 1663 he met Isaac Barrow, who gave him his first class as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. At the same time came into contact with the work of Galileo, Fermat, Huygens and others from the 1659 edition of the Geometry of Descartes by Van Schooten.
